Alice Jane Conner Obituary

Mrs. Conner was born in Jennings county, Indiana, in 1837, the daughter of Martha and John Hicklin. Her father crossed the plains in 1849, the family coming in 1851 and settled near Tigard, in Washington county. On June 1, 1863, she married William Conner and came to Polk county, on a donation land claim on Red Prairie and residing there continuously until her death. to this union was born four children, three of whom survive, one son dying in 1899 at the age of 30 years . Their other three children are Anna, Ezra and George, all of whom reside on Red Prairie. The funeral was held from the home Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, June 28th, 1917, with her former pastor at Harmony, Rev. W.M. Short of Salem, preaching a short sermon. Interment was made in the old Pleasant Hill cemetery, the last resting place of many of the the old pioneers of Oregon. The direct cause of death was heart failure doe to paralysis. The first stroke was four years ago and since then other strokes have followed, the last being on Sunday, June 18.
